One of the highlights of Marriage Story is actor, Adam Driver’s performance of Stephen Sondheim’ Broadway classic “Being Alive” from the Broadway musical “Company”.
What relates Adam’s character to Bobby from the musical is, they have both come to their end as to what marriage means to them.

What stands out is the delivery in which Adam sings this song live, yes live. He breezes through the lyrics in a convincing brink of a breakdown way, he touches his face, Charlie starts off playfully, but the power of the song soon pull on his emotions.
“Somebody need me too much / somebody knows me too well / someone to pull me up short / and put me through hell / and give me support / for being alive / Make me alive, make me alive
Make me confused, Mock me with praise / Make me feel used, vary my days / But alone is alone, not alive
Somebody crowd me with love / somebody forces me to care / somebody makes me come through / I’ll always be there / as frightened as you / to help us survive / Being alive / Being alive, being alive, being alive, being alive”
You cannot help but feel pity for him, what will it cost to love him that much? Kudos to Adam for such a powerful delivery.
